Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one various events.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour championship, took control to create a third set.

The opponent saved four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
